Kaia Update

Well, I've been getting a lot of people asking about how Kaia's heart is doing. We went to the pediatric cardiologist today and so now I have a few more answers. For those who didn't know, Kaia has a ventricular septal defect, VSD or hole in the heart. Dr Jones, (I love saying that name...think "Temple of Doom") gave us some bad and good news. The bad news is the hole is still there but as far as bad news goes its not too bad. He said that it was smaller in fact "teeny tiny" were his words. And that is pretty good news because that means it is slowly closing on its own. It started off as moderate, then last appt it was small and now its teeny tiny. But the great news is he said because it is slowly closing and because it is so small, and because of the location he will never have to surgically correct it. Last appointment we knew we were possibly facing a heart surgery within a year or two. Now she will never have to go through that. He said at the size the hole is now if it never closes she will still live to be 110 yrs old and the only thing I need to worry about from here on out is potty training, driving, dating and college. We were thrilled! He pushed her appointment to a year from now because he is not concerned at all anymore. So we went from a weekly appointment, to a monthly, to six months and now a year. I imagine he'll want to check on her for the next 18 years of her life now and then but I think we can live with this news just fine. Thank you for all of your prayers. From the day she was born we have been praying for this news! We are so blessed to have this angel in our lives . She is a breath of fresh air! She is such a happy girl and so easy going. We deserve one of those after our last two ! ha ha.

We didn't even know there was a problem! But we're glad to hear that she's doing good. She's blessed to have come to such a great family that loves her so much.
